Thanks for the link Paula I've added my 2p's worth to the comments too. Lets hope the moderator lets all the valid ones through. Aye I read those Jenni and thought the same thing, people simply don't realise what RA is capable of, and while they may feel better for the moment, the RA is still attacking the joints and causing damage, which will only cause more problems in the long term. As well as submitting a comment, I've also just emailed the Daily Mail about the Article as follows Quote:Dear Daily Mail,
While it was good to read the problems of diagnosis with Rheumatoid Arthritis is appearing in Daniel Martin's article of Feb 23rd, I feel that the headline is a bit misleading.
MP's have been talking about the poor provision of care for people with RA for many months, especially after it was highlighted by the National Audit Office report which appeared last summer. The issue with RA is that it can strike at ANY age and it isn't just the elderly who are suffering, people of all ages are affected by this debilitating condition including children. I think the removal of the word elderly from the headline and first sentence would help reinforce the importance of raising awareness on the issue.
The rest of the article reinforces extremely well just why early intervention is essential in the treatment of RA.
One of the main problems with RA is that people often only hear the word "arthritis" and automatically associate it with older members of society (which is often Osteoarthritis)
But thank you for highlighting the problem many people throughout the UK are having in getting a swift diagnosis and early intervention with the condition.

I'm so disappointed by the (only!) two comments shown so far! Bsically saying that the meds are rubbish! Obviously those two ladies don't have the daily pain and disability that most of us have to suffer with AND still get on with raising kids etc. Lucky them!!

I have just read the other 2 articles and the press release.
WELL DONE NRAS for getting this the attention it deserves. I was really pleased to see this bit being publicised
"The report said there are large variations in the amount of money primary care trusts spend, ranging from £5.68 to £17.58 per head of population and the selection of services available to patients varies around the country."
lets hope it makes some people really listen.

The difference in spending is quite unbelievable! Although saying that, it seems to reflect accurately the very different levels of care and the general experiences that can be seen amongst ourselves on this forum. I count my blessings every day that I must be in one of the better PCT's and get so frustrated hearing about the shoddy services some others have to put up with.
Let's hope that, with more exposure, things might change.

Thanks for posting this article Paula, though like everyone else, find the elderly part very misleading. I hope other articles will redress the balance.
I've printed the article, and will take it to my Patient Participation Group when the time is right!
